Scrapbooks, correspondence, educational materials, photographs, and postcards document Fleming's personal and professional life. Scrapbooks contain correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, reprints, and other printed items. Correspondence includes personal letters from family members and letters of congratulation concerning Fleming's publications on Civil War and Reconstruction history. Scrapbook 2 contains a congratulatory letter from Woodrow Wilson when he was president of Princeton University. Among the photographs are portraits of Fleming, including one of him in uniform during the Spanish American War. Photographs of Ku-Klux klan members in klan regalia are included.

Walter Lynwood Fleming (1874-1932) was professor of history at various universities in the U.S. including West Virginia University, Louisiana State University and Vanderbilt University, in addition to serving as dean of arts and sciences at Louisiana State and director of graduate work at Vanderbilt.
